Solo Action Figure Looks Nothing Like Actor Who Looks Nothing Like Solo

When is Han Solo not really Han Solo? Whatever you do, don’t ask Star Wars fans as the already divisive casting of Alden Ehrenreich to portray young Han Solo has taken yet another weird turn. Hasbro recently unveiled the action figures based on Solo: A Star Wars Story, and wouldn’t you know it — the young Han Solo figure looks nothing like Ehrenreich, who in turn, looks nothing like the original Han Solo, according to many Original Trilogy purists.

“The figure looks like Captain Tightpants from Joss Whedon’s Firefly way more than the new kid whose name I still can’t pronounce,” said Star Wars superfan and Reddit expert Brian “Pew Pew” Kirkpatrick.

In addition to Solo figures, Hasbro also revealed its Lando Calrissian, newcomer Qi’Ra and Chewbacca toys, but all of those bear striking resemblances to their respective film counterparts. Insiders speculate perhaps the Solo figures are part of a ruse that plays out in the film, wherein the young smuggler uses a decoy that looks nothing like him. However, Ehrenreich’s reaction to the toy based on his likeness leads us to believe otherwise.

That’s not me. No way in hell. The least they could do is get my hairline right. It’s really hard to believe this got approved. But the good thing is, it’s just plastic… they can easily mold it the right way for the next wave of toys, whereas I can’t just magically look like a young Harrison Ford.”

As for the original Han Solo, we reached out to Ford’s people for his reaction to the new Solo action figure, but his assistant said “Mr. Ford could not care less.”

Several Hasbro apologists believe the figure’s uncanny lack of any resemblance to Ehrenreich is a gross overstatement. But that’s not swaying some of its most vocal critics. “It was meant to be a double negative equation. By not looking like the new guy… who doesn’t look like the old guy… Hasbro should have given us a Solo figure that actually looks like Solo, if that makes any sense,” said Steve Sansweet, chairman and president of Rancho Obi-Wan, the world’s largest collection of Star Wars memorabilia. “That said, I’ve started a hashtag campaign using #NotMyHanSoloActionFigure, because Hasbro has created a Solo that looks like neither Ehrenreich or Ford.”

In response to the growing backlash, Hasbro has issued a statement which leaves the door open to revisit their Solo action figure mold in the future. For the moment though, the manufacturer will be proceeding with production of the current figure, despite being hated by the man they’re supposed to represent.

“Maybe they thought I got canned when Lord and Miller left the project? I dunno. This whole thing is surreal,” added Ehrenreich.
