Redditorial: Why Keri Russell Will Portray Jaina Solo In Episode IX
Variety has reported than Emmy-winning actress Keri Russell is in talks to appear in Star Wars: Episode IX. This would mark a reunion for her and director J.J. Abrams who last worked together on Mission Impossible III. As expected, speculation has run rampant that the Felicity actress will be playing none other than Rey’s mother. Despite signs pointing to Rey coming from humble origins, many fans believe this is another misdirect that will be subverted by Abrams. One critic of this theory contacted us to outline why he knows it’s untrue. Without further ado, here is Redditor JJsCat take on who Russell will be playing:
IMHO Keri Russell is not going to be Rey’s mom. I have it on good faith that she will in fact be playing Jaina Solo from the Legends universe. Not only would this correct the timeline, but it would help to appease longtime fans who feel The Last Jedi took thinks in the wrong direction.
If you need proof, need I remind you that Russell starred alongside Harrison Ford in the film Extraordinary Measures. The two hit it off and are still in touch to this day. I’m fairly certain there will be a forceback scene in Episode IX, where we see digitally de-aged versions of Harrison Ford and Russell interacting 10 years prior to the events of The Force Awakens.
With the loss of Carrie Fisher and Luke relegated to Trolling Force Ghost, adding Harrison Ford to the cast of the Skywalker saga finale will bring back lots of fans. Furthermore, I believe Keri Russell’s Jaina Solo will team up with Rey to defeat Kylo Ren and the First Order in the ultimate tag-team demonstration of The Force Is Female… and I cannot wait.
