U2 Threatens Lawsuit Over Galaxy’s Edge Name

Don’t bet on U2 playing a concert at Disneyland anytime soon. The legendary rock band is threatening legal action over the name of the Mouse House’s latest billion-dollar attraction, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

“You can’t just take a man’s name, slap Star Wars in front of it, and cash in on his legacy without his permission. My clients have spent over 40 years building one of music’s most storied careers. Fortunately, they’ve also had the foresight to protect their namesakes and likenesses. Since 1982, the names U2, Bono, Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr., and any variations have been wholly owned by the band. Over the years, we’ve had to engage in litigation many times, but Disney’s new theme park is perhaps the most egregious case of clear-cut copyright theft,” said U2 attorney Alan J. Grubmann.

According to Grubmann, U2’s ownership of the name “Edge” encompasses the entire Milky Way, and extends to all other galaxies, known or unknown. This same stipulation is what helped the 22-time Grammy Award winners land record settlements from Gillette over its Edge shave gel as well as the WWE who made the costly mistake of naming one of their performers Edge.

“What’s next? Star Wars: Bono Land? We have to nip this in the bud before it gets out of hand,” said Grubmann.

We reached out to Disney for comment on this story, but they were unavailable time of publication.
