We Ranked Every Desert Planet in Star Wars

It seems to be a common trope in Star Wars to throw our heroes onto a desert planet. In fact, every trilogy features the appearance of at least one sand-filled planet. So when you think of Star Wars, you can’t help put picture sand… lots and lots of sand. Of course, no two sand heaps are alike, and we can prove it! After the jump, we’ll rank every desert planet that has ever appeared in Star Wars.

Tatooine

Tatooine is likely the first planet that comes to mind when you think of Star Wars. It’s the home planet of not only Anakin Skywalker, but also his son, Luke Skywalker. It has great amenities such as the Mos Eisley Cantina, Jabba’s Palace, the Great Pit of Carkoon, Watto’s Junk Shop, and the Boonta Eve Speedway. Do you need any more convincing that Tatooine is the best desert planet in the galaxy? Well it’s appeared in a total of five films, the most of any planet in Star Wars!

Jedha

While this planet only appeared in one live-action Star Wars film, it made quite an impact on the Skywalker Saga. If you’ve seen Rogue One you know it’s importance to the ancient Jedi, the Empire, and the Rebel Alliance. Jedha was chock-full of kyber crystals like a loaded baked potato from your favorite steakhouse.

Geonosis

Geonosis was where the Clone Wars officially kicked off, with an arena event so grand it put the Super Bowl to shame! While there wasn’t a halftime show, it was the first place we ever saw a mass assault of lightsaber wielding army and Natalie Portman in her iconic, perfectly battle-torn crop top.

Jakku

The home of Rey was the first planet seen in the sequel trilogy and it’s definitely not worth it’s weight in quarter portions. Sure, it was the location of a massive battle between the Rebels and Empire, but we didn’t even get to see it on screen, as it was relegated to a lame video game. While the iconic imagery of the massive Star Destroyer graveyard was cool, there’s a reason no one wants to go back to Jakku.

After we went onto Wookieepedia to check the other two or three desert planets left in Star Wars, we realized there were dozens upon dozens. So, we gave up trying to compile a list. Yeah, this a cop-out but lets see you write a paragraph about nearly 100 copy and paste Tatooine-like planets.
