Disney Planning Female-Only Force Friday for Last Jedi

Disney Planning Female Only Force Friday for Last Jedi

Hollywood — DC’s surprise hit Wonder Woman continues to prove that women are just as capable as men, if not moreso, of repeatedly viewing mindless CG spectacle. What else would explain countless sold-out, female-only screenings all around the world? Hollywood has definitely taken notice, particularly the head of Lucasfilm.

According to our sources, Kathleen Kennedy is so enamored of Wonder Woman’s marketing strategy, she’s planning to shake things up in the Star Wars galaxy, starting in the toy aisle. Per Kennedy, this Fall’s scheduled Force Friday, the semi-annual retail event marking the debut of merchandise from the latest Star Wars film, will be limited to shoppers of the fairer gender. This marks the first time the Black Friday-like event, which is typically held at midnight, will exclude men, boys, fanboys, and manchildren, along with any and all variation of male humanoid.

Maybe next year, man child!

While the announcement has yet to officially be made, Lucasfilm insiders tell us everyone is excited about the new female spin on Black Friday.

“It’s about time! The 12-year old boys can wait for a change. We’ve been pandered to for the last 30 years. The new Star Wars is led by strong women like Rey, Kat, and Kiri, so check your male privilege at the door” said creative executive Pablo Hidalgo.

According to Kennedy, the shopping power of female Star Wars fans remains untapped, and a female-only Force Friday will go a long way towards sending a powerful message.

Kennedy believes the force is all-powerful and all-female

“If women can make a film like Wonder Woman number one at the box office, I’m very confident we can make peg warmers like Rose Tico fly off the shelves in record numbers. Read my shirt loud and clear: the force is female! And this year, so is Force Friday!!! Yasss queens! Slay like Rey!!

It remains to be seen whether Disney’s retail partners including Target, Walmart and Toys “R” Us are fully onboard with the re-imagined Force Friday. One executive privy to discussions between the parties tells us there’s one sticking point that may put the kibosh on Kennedy’s plans.

“The retailers are fine with a girl-only Friday sale, but afterwards Kennedy wants the stores to charge males 18% more for every Star Wars figure, vehicle or play set. She claims it’s to reflect the gender pay gap in America, but her proposal is falling on mostly deaf, and mostly male ears right now.”

Hopefully an agreement is reached, so female Star Wars fans can finally get first dibs on Last Jedi toys without having to stand in lines elbow-to-elbow with raging fanboys. In any case, below you’ll find the full list of Star Wars toys that may be available to girls and women first on Force Friday.
