Punk Band Sick of Hearing Requests For 'Cantina Band'

OLDTOWNE, WI — Punk band Screamin’ Meanies of Youngstown, Maine are on their first tour across the continental United States. Things have been good so far; the van hasn’t broken down, they’ve gotten free food from Taco Bell, and fans have let the 4-piece group crash on their couches. However, every time the Screamin’ Meanies perform in a bar, the patrons always scream out, “Play that song by the alien band in Star Wars!”

The first time it happened, singer and guitarist Olivia Mooreland laughed it off and even played a riff from the John Williams composed ‘jizz-wailing’ tune. But without fail this happened at every bar in every state. Needless to say, the band is quite annoyed.

“I’m so sick of people wanting us to play Cantina Band. We’re a punk band! If they asked us to play anything by blink-182 or the Ramones we’d be okay with it since it’s actually in our genre. We’re not from Tatooine so please stop with the requests.”

–Kevin Love, bassist of Screamin’ Meanies

The band doesn’t even know why Cantina Band is the song people are requesting them to play. None of the band members look like aliens or wear Star Wars graphic tees while on stage. The only thing that might explain the requests is a small tattoo on the drummer’s leg of Faking Star Wars’ mascot Goober, often visible seen since he always wears shorts.

As it turns out, the band’s booking manager Nigel Bronson is a Star Wars fan and every gig he booked coincided with small conventions in each town that he planned on attending.

“After going to all these little cons I get all the cosplayers and artists I meet to go to the band’s shows at the local bars. I kill two porgs with one stone! I get to hit up a Star Wars party and the band plays to a full house. Hashtag: Winning!”

–Nigel Bronson, Screamin’ Meanies booking manager
