Lucasfilm’s Matt Martin Confirms ‘Little Italy’ Canon Timeline Placement
Today in news no one saw coming or cares about, the canon timeline placement for the Anakin Skywalker spin-off film Little Italy has been set in [pizza] stone. Special thanks to Steven Suurgav of Everything is Canon podcast for asking for this confirmation that Lucasfilm Story Group’s Matt Martin was happy to share.
Faking Star Wars‘ own Willybobo, suggested a time frame for the film to take place to Suurgav, which Martin confirmed was correct. Willy tweeted the following image as a reply to Suurgav’s question about Little Italy.
The film is apparently set between the Disney+ series The Mandalorian and the beginning of the sequel trilogy, The Force Awakens. What does this mean exactly? Is it set in the netherworld of the Force as Anakin/Darth Vader is canonically dead at this time? If so this is BIG as prior to this we knew nothing of the afterlife for the Star Wars universe other than that some Jedi can appear as ghosts to only Luke Skywalker and his doppelganger Jake Skywalker (seen with Yoda appearing on Ahch-To in The Last Jedi.)
Additionally, Pizza the Hutt issued a bounty on Anakin after the time of this film so does this mean Pizza the Hutt is also canonically dead? Will Matt explain why this is the timeline placement or not? This seems to only bring up more mysteries. What is your theory on why the film is set in this particular place? Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on Twitter.
Interested on if you should even watch Little Italy? Well luckily for you, Willybobo wrote a review for the film on our cousin site FilmGrouch.
